Feminism is a great movement which emancipates women from all the ancient traditions; the tradition which kept the women submissive. This empowers women to raise their voice for their rights. Not only do they get chance to participate in every walk of life but also they will go side by side to men. Indeed, it was the need of hour to shun the gender discrimination and ensure equality across the globe irrespective of gender, caste and creed. However, in Pakistan, there are still formidable challenges which prevent women from entering the mainstream. The first and foremost is patriarchal society where male gender has a heavy hand over female; men consider women subservient to them. They consider female as a weak gender. Therefore, they deprive them of their rights. Additionally, lack of awareness is also one of the challenges which resist equality. Various steps have been taken to empower women but due to unawareness women cannot speak out for their rights. The human rights declarations by the United Nations in general and constitutional amendments in particular clearly defend the empowerment of women. Finally, media is playing partial role in this regard. Especially, in the remote areas where access to awareness in not easy, media does not highlight issues. It comes under the influence of the feudal who do not allow gender equality. Thus, in such critical situation, the feminist movement seems to the only viable option which can ensure gender equality. The literate class has to come forward and aware the people for equality.
